Kazutoshi Najita received the BS in Electrical Engineering in 1953 from Illinois Institute of Technology, the MS in Applied Mathematics in 1955 from Brown University, and the Ph.D. in Physics in 1969 from the University of Hawaii.
From 1955-1957, he worked on traveling wave microwave devices at Sperry Gyroscope Company. He also worked at the Engineering Research Center at the University of Michigan, in the radar cross-section studies area.
He joined the Department of Electrical Engineering, UH Manoa in 1959 when the Deparment was initially formed as a program. He served as Department Chair from 1981 to 1989, Associate Chair and Graduate Chair from 1989 to 1995, and Department Chair again from 1996 to 1999.
His research interests are in solid state devices, microwaves, optical devices and networks.
